Penn State may be among the Big Ten teams off this weekend, but there is still college football to be played around the conference in Week 8. Indiana gets a chance to bounce back this weekend against a Michigan program feeling a bit rejuvenated after a quarterback change led to a win last week. UCLA looks to stay undefeated, and USC hits the road to take on Wisconsin. And of course, there is the battle for the Floyd of Rosedale between Iowa and Minnesota to look forward to.
Here are our picks for this weekend's Big Ten slate of games.
Paul on Michigan vs. Indiana: It will be interesting to see what Michigan looks like after the quarterback change. Indiana is coming off its first loss in almost two years, so there’s no doubt Curt Cignetti is ticked off. This should be a compelling game between two teams in uncharted territory.
Christopher on Michigan vs. Indiana: This game could prove to a lot of Michigan fans why Tommy Carr could be a more viable option moving forward. If he starts, he seems like someone who could cause Indiana’s defense problems much like Aidan Chiles did a couple of weeks ago. I still have faith that the Hoosiers will win comfortably, but I'm interested in Carr and the Michigan QB situation.
Kevin on UCLA vs. Michigan State: With UCLA being the last team standing in the Big Ten, I am interested to see how Bob Chesney continues to have this team prepared to take on the challenge of no longer being viewed as a scrappy upstart. The Bruins get a favorable matchup this weekend against Michigan State, which is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Northwestern (another solid team this season).
Paul on Illinois vs. Oregon: What a fall from grace for Oregon. It seemed like a lock to make the CFP this year, only to have its hopes hanging on by a thread six weeks into the season. Illinois is hungry, and I expect them to feat on the Ducks this weekend.
Christopher on Minnesota vs. Iowa: This could be just a classic gritty Big Ten game between two feisty Big Ten teams. Minnesota has great running backs while Iowa has one of the nations best run defenses. Give me the Hawkeyes in a hard fought war of attrition to keep their slim Big Ten title and CFP hopes alive.
