We’re treading water here at Best Bets, with another .500 week in Week 6. All told, we’re standing at 10-11 in our Best Bets, but a much more impressive 25-17 on our overall picks. This week we’re improving our rookie Best Bet numbers and in doing so we’re going to pump up the overall picks as well. Let’s get to it.

Best Bets

Ohio State (-3.5) @ Indiana

Indiana’s offense was exposed last week at Nebraska, only putting up 20 points with 14 of those coming off explosives as a result of blown coverages. Ohio State isn’t going to be allowing any 70-yard passes this week and while this game is in Bloomington, I don’t see a world where Indiana is able to score enough to keep up with Jeremiah Smith, let alone the output of the entire Buckeyes team.

Florida @ Texas (-10.5)

Speaking of exposed, I think Mizzou did a pretty excellent job of exposing Florida’s soft underbelly to the world two weeks ago. They got housed again last week by a bad South Carolina team at home. Now they get to go to Austin where they will play a doubly motivated Longhorns team. First, this is a revenge game for Texas because Florida beat them last year to keep them out of playoffs. Second, the Horns are coming off a terrible collapse against the Sooners and they are desperately wanting a get-right game. I think that’ll happen Saturday.

Auburn @ Georgia (-20.5)

After a brief week-long hiatus from jumping on giant Georgia lines, we’re back at it this week. Auburn’s offense is once again bad and Georgia eats bad offenses for breakfast. They may not put up 40 points, but the Bulldogs are going to hold Auburn to under 17, meaning they’ll still win by three touchdowns.

Worth a look

Alabama (-8.5) @ Tennessee

Speaking of bad offenses, have you watched Tennessee play yet this year? They barely put up 17 against Arkansas last week and their starting quarterback is injured and will be a late-week decision. Alabama is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Georgia and there is no better way for them to do that than against rival Tennessee. This one might be ugly and close in the first half, but the Volunteers defense will break eventually and Alabama will win by at least 10.

Nevada @ North Dakota St. (-14.5)

This is a strange spread, since North Dakota State devours bad teams in the Fargo Dome. Nevada is a bad team and this game is in the Fargo Dome, thus they will be devoured by the Bison. My only guess for why this spread isn’t 17+ is North Dakota State lost last week… albeit to a pretty good UNLV team on the road. No shame there for a team making it’s inaugural foray into Mountain West play. The safest bet on this list might be the Bison this week, they should roll.

Utah (-15.5) @ Colorado

Just like with Georgia, Utah is back on our list of big spreads to pick. They are a wagon that perhaps only one or two (if any) Big 12 team will be able to slow down. FYI, Colorado is NOT one of those two teams. The Buffaloes are a mess and we may be looking at Deion Sanders’ swan song in Boulder. The Utes should help hurry that along.
