The Arkansas Razorbacks found themselves in an undesirable position, to say the least. Before Saturday’s match, the team ranked 16th out of 16 teams in the Southeastern Conference for college football. Arkansas endured a losing streak in the conference for two years. With all this in mind, the team took a step back and started taking a different approach, but has it been enough?
Arkansas Razorbacks SEC Losing Streak And A Solution

Since the 2024 match against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the Razorbacks hadn’t won an SEC match. The losing streak sat at 14 conference games, a disaster of a record that left the state dejected. In order to address issues that the team is facing, Coach Ryan Silverfield was brought on to push the team in the right direction back in November of 2025.
Silverfield was previously the head coach of the Memphis Tigers, as part of the American conference. The Tigers beat the Razorbacks the previous September 32-31. Under Silverfield's Memphis leadership, it had two back-to-back 10-win seasons, which included two consecutive bowl games in 2021 and 2022.
Before the Tigers, Silverfield was the assistant coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Arkansas felt like it got a great deal on a coach with experience against them and in the NFL. The Razorbacks planned to have Silverfield assess the team and use his experience to bring it back up the conference rankings.
Arkansas Razorbacks SEC Losing Streak: Losing Is Taking A Toll On Razorbacks
Currently, Silverfield is in his first year as the head coach, and fans have been lukewarm on the Arkansas performance. Some fans are trying to give Silverfield the benefit of the doubt. Again, it is his first season, and the losing streak is something he inherited. The team’s losing streak though leads to others being less kind. They believed that Silverfield should have been able to narrow down what has been going wrong by now.
Silverfield would give his own take on the losing streak, saying that "the losses take years off your life." He went on to say, "That's the nature of this whole thing. It burns at your soul, but I'm going to maintain a positive outlook. Because I truly know that we're headed in the right direction." Silverfield finally saw some progress with the team in the most recent game. Now the Razorbacks found themselves moving up in the SEC standings, ranking 15 out of 16.
Arkansas Razorbacks SEC Losing Streak: A Ray Of Hope

On October 17th, Arkansas faced off against the Vanderbilt Commodores who are also on a losing streak in the SEC for the season. The matchup offered an opportunity to break the streak. The Razorbacks took advantage and ended the losing streak!
Arkansas outperformed expectations in a 31-21 victory in Nashville. The Commodores were ahead in the first quarter with an early touchdown, but the Razorbacks answered back with two of their own from Johnson and Settles. Vanderbilt did score a touchdown thanks to Young to even out the score, and they would only score one more touchdown in the third quarter. Arkansas successfully prevented another score from the Commodores in the entire fourth quarter and secured one more field goal at the 24-second mark to cap off the game. By the end of the fourth quarter, the Razorbacks gained a total of 438 yards on offense to Vanderbilt’s 390 yards.
