Arkansas Could Make Texas A&M’s Bad September Even Worse

Texas A&M gets another chance to stop the bleeding Saturday night when Arkansas visits Kyle Field, and the pressure is starting to build quickly.

The Aggies are 2-2 overall and 0-2 in SEC play after consecutive losses to Kentucky and LSU.

The latest one was especially ugly: a 35-6 loss in Baton Rouge in which Texas A&M produced just 197 total yards and failed to score a touchdown.

The defense wasn’t much better.

LSU rolled up 506 yards, one week after Kentucky produced 408, meaning Texas A&M has now allowed more than 900 yards over its last two games.

That’s not exactly the setup Mike Elko wanted entering another conference matchup.

Arkansas, meanwhile, comes to College Station at 2-2 and 0-1 in the SEC after beating Tulsa 34-6.

Quarterback KJ Jackson delivered his best performance of the season, completing 24 of 36 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown while adding two rushing scores.

His favorite target was Chris Marshall, who caught nine passes for a career-high 195 yards and a touchdown.

That combination should get Texas A&M’s attention.

The Aggies have struggled to prevent explosive plays in recent weeks, and Marshall gives Arkansas exactly the kind of receiver capable of turning one missed assignment into a huge gain.

A&M’s biggest issue, though, remains its own offense.

Marcel Reed has been inconsistent, the passing game has lacked rhythm, and the Aggies haven’t found enough answers when opponents force them into obvious passing situations.

The good news? They’re back at Kyle Field, where oddsmakers still view them as clear favorites. Early betting lines have Texas A&M favored by roughly two touchdowns.

That number won’t mean much if the same mistakes continue.

Texas A&M doesn’t need Reed to suddenly become Superman. It needs a cleaner game, a reliable running attack and a defense that stops giving away explosive plays.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 3, on ESPN2.

For the Aggies, this already feels bigger than just another conference game. Another loss would turn a rough September into a full-blown season crisis.
