The Big 12 goes international with Arizona State (1-1) and Kansas (1-1) kicking off the Big 12 season in London.

Arizona State gave Texas A&M a decent run last week for a while, but buckled late in a 48-20 loss. With a slew of nasty Big 12 road games coming up later, there can’t be a misfire here.
Kansas also struggled late last week in the Border War loss to Missouri. For head coach Lance Leipold, this has quickly turned into a must-win, with a whole lot more traveling coming up after this.

Arizona State vs Kansas: Quick Hits

  • It’s only the second time the two teams have ever played. The first was a 35-31 Arizona State win in 2024.
  • Kansas gets a bit of a break with Middle Tennessee up next, and then comes a gauntlet of three road games in four weeks, starting at Utah and Kansas State.

Why Arizona State Will Win

Cutter Boley is a baller.
The 6-5, 220-pound Kentucky transfer quarterback has been a terrific pickup, hitting 69% of his passes with eight touchdowns in his first two games. Keeping the chains moving was a problem against Texas A&M, but overall he’s been solid. He should light up a Kansas defense that had problems with Missouri’s Austin Simmons last week.

Why Kansas Will Win

Kansas needs Arizona State to screw up, too. The Sun Devils turned it over four times last week against the Aggies – the Jayhawks have to apply the defensive pressure to keep Boley from getting comfortable.
The Sun Devils have more pop, so the Jayhawks have to manufacture points and field position with big plays from the special teams – the ASU punting game hasn’t been great so far – and being a +2 in turnover margin could be a must.

Arizona State vs Kansas Prediction, Betting Lines

The fish-(and-chips)-out-of-water aspect to this is a huge X factor in Kansas’s favor.
Arizona State is playing better so far, the Jayhawks didn’t show the pass rush needed against Missouri to bother the Sun Devil playmakers, and there are sure to be a few funky twists and turns.
The coaching staffs will try to keep this simple: run the ball, block, and tackle. Arizona State will do that a bit better.
