It’s been an up-and-down season for quarterback Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. Manning led the Longhorns to an extraordinary comeback against the Ohio State Buckeyes, but later in the season, he struggled immensely in back-to-back losses to the Texas A&M Aggies and Florida Gators.
Last week, Manning righted the ship with a strong showing in a victory against the Ole Miss Rebels, but his body of work to this point in the campaign has left many wondering if he’d be better off entering the 2027 NFL draft or returning for another season of college ball.
According to former ESPN analyst David Pollack, now of On3, an SEC coach has already told him what Manning will end up doing.
“Arch will not be at Texas next year. This is something that I’ve heard from an SEC coach, and I believe 100% it’s going to happen,” Pollack said on See Ball Get Ball.

“So the question is NFL or another college,” podcast co-host Brent Rollins said.
“I think he’ll be playing college football. I don’t think it will be at Texas next year,” Pollack responded. “I think it will make a lot of sense for both to go their own ways, possibly. I don’t know what’s going to happen the rest of the year, and I don’t know what the coaching situation is going to look like, but I think it would probably be something that might be like, ‘hey, this is good for both of us. Maybe we both go our separate ways.’
“That same coach that told me that actually said, ‘I think he’ll go to Georgia,’ but can’t name names, any of that stuff.”
Pollack is far from the first analyst to float the idea of Manning returning to school and entering the transfer portal. ESPN’s Jesse Rodgers recently said that he believes a new home for Manning would do him some good, a sentiment that others such as Dan Orlovsky have shared.
As difficult a season as this has been for Texas, it feels a little premature for coaches to be guaranteeing that Manning won’t be back in Austin, considering there’s still plenty of season left and Texas is firmly in the picture for the College Football Playoff.
