Texas Tech football megadonor Cody Campbell, who publicly criticized the Red Raiders' performance after their 37-24 loss to Cincinnati in Week 8, confirmed his support of coach Joey McGuire on Wednesday, Oct. 28, clarifying his stance on the program's current leader.

Campbell, who wrote "there is no excuse or reason to lose a game like this" on social media after the loss, said McGuire is going nowhere.

"Absolutely nothing is going to change at the head coach position at Texas Tech," Campbell wrote Oct. 28 on social media. "Joey McGuire is a perfect fit for our program, everybody, with an opinion that matters, loves him. He isn’t going anywhere.

"If anything, we are ready, willing, and able to double down on him and this program. It’s more likely that he gets an extension and raise at the end of this year."

McGuire's future at Texas Tech has been called into question in recent days following the loss, with speculation rising that two Texas Tech alum coaches — Southern California's Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma State's Eric Morris — could be potential options to replace him. Campbell was teammates with both Riley and Morris at Texas Tech in the early 2000s, even hosting Morris during Morris' recruiting visit.

Campbell told USA TODAY Sports on Oct. 26 that Texas Tech has to be better collectively.

“It’s the whole ‘team’ — which these days includes all of us. Players, coaches, administrators, boosters,” he said. “In today’s landscape, we are all part of what happens out there. I’m not pointing fingers at any individual.”

Texas Tech reportedly has one of the most expensive rosters in the Big 12 and the country, but looks a few ticks worse than it did last season, when it lost to Oregon in the first round of the College Football Playoff. It doesn't help that transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby, one of the sought-after players this offseason, isn't with the team, either.

McGuire has a 41-19 record at Texas Tech, including an 18-3 mark dating back to the start of last season.
