Miami takes over at No. 1, BYU makes a massive jump, and SEC powerhouses tumble after one of the wildest weekends in college football history.
College football just experienced one of the craziest weekends in recent memory, and the newest AP Top 25 rankings reflect exactly that. Five of the previous top seven teams lost on Saturday, completely shaking up the national championship picture.
For the first time since 2002, Miami is the No. 1 team in America. The Hurricanes climbed two spots after surviving Florida State 43-35 in double overtime. Meanwhile, BYU made the biggest statement of the weekend, jumping from No. 8 to No. 2 after defeating Notre Dame 28-24.
Ohio State moved into the No. 3 spot following its impressive 19-15 road victory over Indiana. Notre Dame dropped to No. 4, while Georgia fell from No. 1 to No. 5 after suffering a shocking 27-24 home loss to unranked Auburn.

Is the SEC Losing Its Grip?
Perhaps the biggest storyline is the SEC’s sudden collapse in the rankings. Alabama dropped seven spots to No. 13 after losing to Tennessee, while Texas plummeted an unbelievable 12 spots to No. 19 following its second consecutive defeat.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss climbed to No. 7 after dismantling Missouri 31-3, and Kentucky continues to surprise everyone at No. 12.
The Big 12 now has three teams inside the top 10, including undefeated BYU, Texas Tech and Utah. That is a major statement for a conference that has often been overlooked in national championship conversations.
With the College Football Playoff rankings approaching, one thing is becoming obvious: Nobody is safe this season. The traditional powerhouses are vulnerable, undefeated teams are emerging from unexpected places, and the national championship race is as unpredictable as ever.
