We’re entering what might be the most fascinating November in recent SEC history. Eight teams are 3-2 or better in conference play, 3-3 South Carolina and Florida teams are ranked in the College Football Playoff top 24, and four other teams are dangerous in an Any Given Saturday sort of way.
Alabama is 4-2 in the SEC and 6-2 overall, 6-2 LSU is 3-2 in the conference, and for the winner, it’s able to stay alive for another week. The loser won’t be dead in the CFP and SEC chases, but its season will be on life support.
Beyond that, it’s Lane Kiffin – who maybe, probably, could’ve and should’ve been the Alabama head coach after Nick Saban retired – and his loaded LSU team going against an explosive, but flawed, Crimson Tide squad that has the minerals to rip through the CFP if it can get there.

Why Alabama Will Win
How do you beat this LSU team? You throw, you keep throwing, and you counter every big moment by the Tigers with an even bigger moment coming through the air.
Trinidad Chambliss threw 48 times for 363 yards in the 32-24 Ole Miss win over the Tigers. Kenny Minchey wasn’t always on in Kentucky’s 35-34 win over LSU, but he threw 36 times for 246 yards.
No one else has been able to throw more than 30 passes against LSU, partly because the Tiger offense is usually in total control. Alabama doesn’t always have to dominate the narrative, but when its offense starts rolling, it comes in waves.
From the fourth quarter in the 31-20 win over Texas A&M, to the 35-3 first half against South Carolina, to scoring 29 unanswered points in the win over Kentucky, when quarterback Keelon Russell and the Tide attack find a groove, look out.

Why LSU Will Win
Alabama has a bit of a turnover problem. It makes up for it with takeaways and an explosive offense, but it won’t be able to get away with multiple turnovers – the four were a killer in the 26-10 loss to Tennessee.
But LSU is all about the momentum. When it’s going downhill on both sides of the ball, this looks and plays like the fastest and most dangerous team going. That starts with the run defense that swarms around everything, keeping teams to under three yards per carry.
The Tigers allowed multiple touchdown runs three times, and all three games were on the road, including the two losses. But …
Alabama vs LSU Prediction, Betting Lines
LSU is a completely different animal in Baton Rouge.
It’s an afternoon game instead of an ultra-amped up night showdown in Death Valley, but it shouldn’t matter too much that the Tiger fan base is just a little less … prepared.
Yeah, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Auburn are, arguably, the three best teams LSU faced, which is why those road games were tough, but LSU hasn’t even let the opponents breathe at home, winning all five games by a combined score of 225-44 with the closest game a 35-6 win over Texas A&M.
LSU won’t destroy Alabama, and it’ll be a back-and-forth fight, but there will be that moment in the second half when it all clicks, and the Tigers will put the game away with a sharp scoring drive. The crowd will take over from there.
