The Alabama Crimson Tide entered the season with questions at quarterback and for the running game.
The answers have been better than expected.
Keelon Russell has thrown for 1,414 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Crimson Tide are averaging 4.9 yards per rush this season with 17 touchdowns on the ground.
That's a big reason why No. 6 Alabama is 5-0 before playing No. 2 Georgia on Saturday.
Paul Myerberg of USA Today ranked all of the undefeated teams in college football entering Week 6. He ranked Alabama at No. 5 behind Texas, Georgia, Miami, and Notre Dame.
Even though Myerberg has Georgia ahead of Alabama, he's not predicting the Crimson Tide to lose at home on Saturday, predicting Alabama's first loss this season to come on Nov. 7 at LSU. The Tigers’ offense has a chance to keep up with Alabama.
Putting Alabama behind those four teams feels about right after five weeks.
It's not that Alabama has played nobody; they've beaten three SEC teams (Kentucky, South Carolina, and Mississippi State). But the Crimson Tide have only played one ranked opponent in Mississippi State, and the Bulldogs appear to have been overrated.
The next four games will define Alabama's season. The Crimson Tide will play Georgia, No. 15 Tennessee, Texas A&M, and No. 10 LSU.
Alabama can probably lose even two of those games and make the College Football Playoff. Tennessee has serious issues on offense, and Texas A&M had a bad month in September.
With that being said, Alabama has a chance on Saturday to prove why they're one of the best teams in the country. If the Crimson Tide take down Georgia, they'll have a better win on their resume than every team above them on Myerberg's list except Texas, who beat Ohio State in Austin in Week 2.
Saturday will be the first time Russell and the offense are tested by an elite defense and coach.
Through the first five games, Alabama has scored 248 points, averaging a whopping 49.6 points per contest. That comes against three SEC schools, Florida State, and East Carolina.
The offense is legit. But Alabama's defense will also be tested by a Bulldogs team that is averaging 51.4 points per game.
This game could get into shootout territory given the offensive production from both teams early in the year, but I'd expect the defenses to keep the game under 40 points for each team.
