Not even three weeks ago, the Alabama Crimson Tide were sitting pretty with a 5-0 record, and some felt they had an argument to be the best team in the country.
Fast forward to now, and things have completely flipped.
Alabama has now lost its last two games, marking the first time the Crimson Tide have lost two straight regular-season contests since 2007. And last week, Alabama was absolutely spanked by Tennessee on the road.
Yes, I understand that 'Bama was missing its No. 1 wide receiver in Ryan Coleman-Williams as well as starting center Racin Delgatty, but that doesn't excuse how badly the Crimson Tide were pummeled by the Volunteers.
And now, Alabama's CFP hopes are suddenly in jeopardy, and Kalen DeBoer is once again in the crosshairs.
DeBoer got off to a fantastic start in 2026 and was slowly but surely improving his reputation. Remember: just over a year ago, a wide swath of Alabama fans wanted DeBoer fired into the sun. But an eight-game winning streak last season changed things.
The Crimson Tide's blowout loss to Indiana in the Rose Bowl was certainly a step back, but DeBoer absolutely made significant progress through the first five weeks of this year.
Until now.
Alabama will host Texas A&M this Saturday in an absolute must-win contest. In fact, the Tide almost certainly have to win out if they want to make the CFP, and even then, a playoff berth is no sure thing.
But can you imagine if the Tide end up missing the playoff this year?
The ire against DeBoer is not quite as intense as it was in early 2025, but it's still there, and its slowly ramping up again.
Alabama looked completely unprepared against Tennessee last Saturday. There was no justifying the 26-10 defeat. There is also no getting around the fact that the Crimson Tide have scored a grand total of 27 points over their last two games.
Fortunately for 'Bama, the Aggies have been a major disappointment in 2026. But on the other side of the coin, that's why a home win over Texas A&M won't do a whole lot for its standing. Alabama is supposed to hammer the Aggies this weekend.
But imagine if the Crimson Tide stumble again?
DeBoer is in some trouble here. Do I think his job is on the line? No, but there is no question that these last five regular-season games are pivotal for his long-term status in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama is facing must-wins every Saturday from here on out, and DeBoer knows that the walls could cave in with just one more loss.
