Texas A&M wasn't supposed to spend Halloween weekend wondering whether it could finish with a winning record. But that's exactly where the Aggies find themselves, and Mike Elko has some serious explaining to do.
On Saturday's edition of Aggies Daily Blitz, host Timm "IndyCarTim" Hamm examined the state of Texas A&M football, questioning Elko's commitment to quarterback Marcel Reed, offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins' struggling attack and whether the Aggies can salvage their season.
After beginning the year ranked eighth nationally, Texas A&M sits at 4-4 overall and a miserable 1-4 in Southeastern Conference play.
That's hardly what fans expected following last season's College Football Playoff appearance.
And as Hamm explained, this isn't simply about losing games. It's about how little the Aggies have improved offensively.

Reed remains the starting quarterback despite throwing eight touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing just 56.8 percent of his passes.
Against Alabama last weekend, Reed managed 163 passing yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 31-20 defeat.
Elko confirmed Wednesday that Reed would remain QB1, a decision that became a central topic of Saturday's podcast.
"I understand loyalty," Hamm said during the episode. "But we're not evaluating last season anymore!"
The quarterback situation is hardly Texas A&M's only concern.
The Aggies scored just six points against LSU and Missouri. Against Alabama, they led 20-17 entering the fourth quarter before their offense completely disappeared.
Texas A&M managed only 15 yards during the final period, going three-and-out on all three possessions.
"That is absolutely unacceptable," Hamm said. "This is the SEC. You can't simply disappear offensively whenever you face a quality opponent."
Hamm argued that Wiggins needs to simplify the passing game, create easier opportunities for Reed and lean more heavily on freshman running back KJ Edwards.
But accountability ultimately falls on Elko.
"This is HIS football program. These are HIS coordinators. These are HIS decisions," Hamm said.
The Aggies now face four critical games: at South Carolina on November 7, Tennessee at home November 14, Oklahoma on the road November 21 and Texas at Kyle Field on November 27.
Texas A&M needs two victories to reach six wins and satisfy the usual minimum for bowl eligibility.
That makes the South Carolina matchup particularly important. Another defeat would leave the Aggies at 4-5 with three challenging SEC opponents remaining.
Hamm stopped short of suggesting Elko should lose his job but emphasized that meaningful adjustments must happen immediately.
"Mike Elko doesn't need to win a press conference this week," Hamm said. "He needs to fix his football team."
With championship expectations already gone, the final month will reveal whether Texas A&M can build momentum or continue sliding toward a deeply disappointing finish.

The Aggies have a week to regroup. The question is whether Elko has any answers left.
