Pat McAfee is pure joy when it comes to ESPN’s “College GameDay.” The Week 5 show aired from downtown Iowa City, with WNBA star Caitlin Clark joining as the celebrity guest picker. McAfee, as usual, didn’t shy away from his antics, going a step further by going shirtless in front of an electric Iowa crowd.

While it turned into an awkward moment initially as McAfee struggled to get his shirt off after his cuffs got stuck, Nick Saban helped him remove it. McAfee’s unexpected pick sent the live audience into a frenzy. Meanwhile, fans online were divided over the act, with some entertained by the stunt and others criticizing it.

When former Alabama head coach Nick Saban joined the show, fans initially thought he might be put off by McAfee’s unhinged antics. But the veteran coach appears to be enjoying each and every moment. His assist with McAfee’s shirt was a perfect example.

After Clark made her pick, backing the Iowa Hawkeyes to win against the Ohio State Buckeyes, the cameras turned to McAfee for his decision.

The former NFL punter instantly took off his shirt and went bare-chested in front of Clark. His cuffs initially got stuck, but Saban helped him remove the shirt, and McAfee went on to pick Ohio State to win the game.

“Caitlin, I apologize to be like this in front of you. But when it calls, it calls. The football gods have called for me to get shirtless in front of these fantastic people,” McAfee screamed during the broadcast on Saturday.

“And I’m gonna put my shirt back on, walk over to Kinnick and watch the Ohio State Buckeyes get a huge win. There’s no way the Buckeyes lose two games in the first five weeks. I love Iowa, I still think there’s a road to the playoffs… but today it’s O-H-I-O! I love you, Caitlin, you’re the best,” he added.

Fans instantly shared their reactions to his viral act, with some calling him out while others supported him.

“I still find him very entertaining,” a fan wrote on X.

“Wow he took off his shirt (laughing emojis) no one doing it like Pat,” another fan wrote, echoing a similar sentiment.

“That’s just Pat being Pat, never know what he’s gonna do. Someone pour me up a double shot of whiskey,” another user wrote.

Meanwhile, others called him out and took shots at his personal life.

“I’m so glad we as a society are getting tired of the Pat frat boy antics. 39 years old with no family, and he’s doing [expletive] like this every weekend. A shameful and depressing legacy,” a user wrote on X.

“LMAOOO Caitlin leaning away from Pat is so funny,” another fan wrote.

Regardless, the Week 5 game went in Ohio State’s favor as Ryan Day and Co. left the field with a 31-14 win. The Iowa offense, led by quarterback Hank Brown, struggled big time, especially in the second half, as the Hawkeyes crumbled against a formidable Ohio State defense.

According to PFN’s CFB Power Rankings, the Buckeyes are currently ranked No. 3. Their only loss this season came in a narrow defeat against the Texas Longhorns in Week 2.

Next week, they will host Maryland at home and remain a strong contender for the Big Ten title, aiming for another ticket to the national championship game.
