You just never know what to expect in the Red River Rivalry.
In the 122nd edition of the clash between Texas and Oklahoma, that meant the Sooners, who were desperately in need of a win, found a way to knock off Arch Manning and the top-ranked Longhorns.
The Sooners were able to do so because of special teams and defense, with both phases of the game creating points for Brent Venables' squad.
Texas vs Oklahoma final score: Highlights of Red River Rivalry
Of Oklahoma's three touchdowns scored at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday in Dallas, two came by way of special teams and defense. The Sooners sealed the win with a Tate Sandell 48-yard field goal as time expired.
Saturday's game marked the eighth edition of the Red River Rivalry, going back to the 2013 season, in which one team was ranked in the AP poll and the other wasn’t. The unranked team improved to a 5-3 record in such games. The Sooners have won each of the last two such occurrences, with the other coming in 2020.
Given the outcome in Dallas and the back-and-forth showing, those on college football social media did not hold back — as all passionate fans do on Saturdays this time of the season — with their thoughts of the outcome:
