We’re just six weeks into the 2026 college football season, and the theme of this year seems to be chaos. Saturday’s Week 6 action delivered on that theme again. Across the country, we had two different quarterbacks rush for over 200 yards, and a true freshman wide receiver put up a season-best performance when he already entered the weekend matching Jeremiah Smith’s stats.
On the other end of the spectrum, high-profile quarterbacks Arch Manning and Dylan Raiola delivered the kind of performances that will haunt their coaches and fans for the rest of the season. This season is simply madness.
Let’s dive into our winners and losers from the slate of college football games today.
Winner: Cale Hellums, QB, Army Black Knights

It’s always great when we can highlight one of the players from a service academy. Army Black Knights senior quarterback Cale Hellums made it even easier this Saturday. In a hard-fought win over Tulane, Hellums handled one of the largest workloads in college football this season. He finished with a season-high 38 carries, doubling his workload from just a week ago, turning that into 223 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. Fittingly, Hellums’ best work came in the fourth quarter. With Tulane leading 10-7, the Black Knights’ quarterback led scoring drives of 61, 65 and 59 yards to give Army the 20-17 win.
Loser: Pat Narduzzi, Pitt Panthers Head Coach

If you’re going to talk a lot of trash about other programs and take shots at top-25 teams who lose to unranked opponents, you better back it up. Put the quarterback excuse aside, Pitt Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi wrote a proverbial check that he and his team couldn’t cash. Even with the Panthers winning the time-of-possession battle by 13 minutes and holding North Carolina to a 27.3% third-down conversion rate on Saturday, Pitt still lost at home to the Tar Heels. It’s safe to say that Narduzzi won’t be talking too much about other programs after this, and more humbling moments should be coming.
Winner: Nick Marsh, WR, Indiana Hoosiers

That’s why you pay Nick Marsh the big bucks to land him out of the college football transfer portal. It had been a productive year for the 6-foot-3 wideout, who entered college football games today with 341 receiving yards and four touchdowns. When the Indiana Hoosiers‘ back was against the proverbial wall, Marsh delivered with two massive catch-and-run touchdowns in the fourth quarter to first make it a one-score game (75-yard touchdown) and then put Indiana on top (44-yard score). Marsh finished the afternoon with 187 receiving yards, his second consecutive game with 120-plus yards.
Loser: Aaron Philo, QB, Florida Gators

The hope and optimism for the 2026 Florida Gators drained out of the Swamp rather quickly. Against two defenses that threw everything they had at containing Jadan Baugh and forcing Aaron Philo to beat them, it’s become pretty evident the Gators’ quarterback isn’t capable of doing that. Philo’s final line got some stat-padding in a game where South Carolina took a 38-13 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but his performance warranted a benching. If Philo is Florida’s starting quarterback against Texas and Georgia, Jon Sumrall’s program is going to get embarrassed on national television. Then again, if the Gators’ coaching staff genuinely believes Philo is their best option right now… well, that raises significant questions about the decision to bring him in this offseason.
Winner: Isaiah Mizell, WR, Arizona Wildcats

Coming into Saturday, Arizona Wildcats sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Mizell had a modest 176 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 13 receptions. He’d never topped 70 yards in a game to this point in his collegiate career. That changed in Week 6 against West Virginia. Mizell made the most of his trip to Morgantown, pulling in a red-zone touchdown (14 yards) in the first quarter and following that up with a 72-yard catch-and-run for the first multi-touchdown game at Arizona. The Wildcats might have something here and at 5-1, they’ve started making their case to be ranked.
Loser: Dylan Raiola, QB, Oregon Ducks

What a two-week falloff for Dylan Raiola. It was just two weeks ago that he came off the bench against USC and led the Oregon Ducks to a 41-27 win, racking up nearly 300 passing yards with a 76% completion rate and two touchdowns. In Week 6, we witnessed what might go down as one of the worst starts by a quarterback in college football this season. Raiola’s interceptions were dumbfounding, a combination of awful decision-making and process, completely wasting a strong performance by Oregon defensively. Raiola was legitimately outplayed by Ty Dieffenbach, who played at Cal Poly in 2025. It got so bad that Dan Lanning had to resort to his third-string quarterback.
Winner: Jesse Legree, WR, Oregon State Beavers

It’s the new freshman sensation of college football. Oregon State Beavers wide receiver Jesse Legree enrolled into the program as a 247Sports three-star recruit in the 2026 class. After Week 6, Legree now leads the nation in receiving touchdowns and receiving yards, both marks even better than Heisman Trophy front-runner Jeremiah Smith. In less than three full quarters on Saturday against San Diego State, Legree turned 10 receptions into 191 receiving yards and three scores. This is the best freshman in the nation.
Loser: Arch Manning, QB, Texas Longhorns

We said it just two weeks ago after the Tennessee game, Arch Manning’s decision-making and reaction to pressure is alarming for someone with his background. Manning showcased his outstanding physical tools in the Red River Rivalry with some eye-popping downfield strikes, but it’s baffling how a multi-year starter with all the coaching he’s received continues to react that poorly to pressure. Manning lost that game for Texas on Saturday and as impressive as his comeback against Ohio State was, the overall inconsistency from him has to be maddening for the fan base and coaching staff.

Winner: Jackson Gutierrez, QB, Navy Midshipmen

The academy schools love competing in everything, and it appears that even applies to their quarterbacks’ stat lines. Hours after Army quarterback Cale Hellums rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Tulane, Navy Midshipmen signal-caller Jackson Gutierrez decided to top that against another school that starts with a T. In Saturday’s 34-26 win over Tulsa, Gutierrez handled a whopping 41 carries, and he fought his way to 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns, with the final two coming in the fourth quarter to take the lead and then seal the victory. For a little context, Gutierrez had 273 rushing yards in four games coming into Saturday.
Loser: Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State Nittany Lions athletic director opted to hire Matt Campbell over Bob Chesney, seemingly prioritizing his Power 4 head-coaching resume and the talent he could bring over from Iowa State. The UCLA Bruins were happy to take advantage of that choice, and it’s a decision that has profoundly shaped the directions of both programs. UCLA is 5-0 for the first time since 2022 and coming off a historic win in Eugene against the Ducks. Penn State, meanwhile, is probably winning no more than seven games this season, and even that might be overly optimistic.
