MADISON – The voters in the AVCA coaches poll are not quite as high on Wisconsin volleyball as the NCAA selection committee.
The Badgers are No. 6 in the Oct. 19 update to the coaches poll. That is the same as where they were in the previous week’s coaches poll and two spots below where the NCAA selection committee slotted them in the in-season top 16.
The rankings follow a 2-0 week for UW with wins over unranked Maryland and Iowa – two teams that are a combined 3-13 in Big Ten matches. UW now has a 13-5 overall record, 7-1 Big Ten record and 8-5 record against ranked opponents.
Other ranked Big Ten teams include No. 1 Nebraska, No. 10 Oregon, No. 12 Purdue, No. 16 Penn State, No. 18 Indiana, No. 20 Minnesota and No. 21 Washington. Teams receiving votes include Michigan State, UCLA and Illinois.
The Badgers will face No. 21 Washington on Oct. 23 and unranked Michigan on Oct. 25 at the UW Field House.
