The Texas Longhorns kickoff the 2026 college football campaign against Texas State today at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. The Bobcats are UT's closest FBS neighbor, with the campuses separated by just about 30 minutes (depending on I-35 traffic of course).

The Bobcats are almost the perfect season opener for the Longhorns as they prepare to host No. 1 Ohio State next weekend. Texas State has a dangerous offense and will could be a dark-horse favorite in the newly formed Pac-12 this year.

All eyes will be on junior quarterback Arch Manning, who looks to get off to a hotter start than he did in 2025. Manning struggled early in the season last year, before hitting his groove to end the campaign.

The Longhorns will feature a lot of new faces from the transfer portal, including WR Cam Coleman (Auburn), LB Rasheem Biles (Pitt) and running backs Hollywood Smothers (NC State) and Raleek Brown (Arizona State).

The game will be a scorcher, with the temperature at game time in the mid-90s.

Texas vs. Texas State predictions, picks, odds

The really interesting matchup, beyond "Arch Watch," will be the Texas defense against the Bobcats offense. Texas State averaged over 472.8 yards and 36.5 points per game in 2025. While not blessed with blue chip athletes, coach G. J. Kinne's team can get it rolling.

I'm a big Muschamp believer. And while there might be some scheme breakdowns here and there, I think the defense holds up. Especially in the Red Zone.
