As the clock approached midnight on Saturday, quarterback Kenny Minchey took the snap from his center, and ran through the middle of the defense for a 2-point conversion and win over No. 10 LSU. It was the capper on another clutch performance where he was at his best in the game's biggest moments, and Kentucky football fans got to celebrate another big victory.
Minchey played well enough in the game, even before the ending fireworks. Facing a very good LSU defense, he looked calm and collected in the pocket, and avoided mistakes. Overall, he went 23-for-36 for 246 yards. He had a rushing touchdown, and the big 2-point play in overtime.
He wasn't the only SEC QB to shine. LaNorris Sellers led South Carolina to a huge win to potentially save Shane Beamer's job. Meanwhile, Gunner Stockton outdueled Keelon Russell in a huge win for the Georgia Bulldogs.
So, after all of the week six action, how do the quarterbacks of the SEC stack up? Here are all 16 starters, ranked after the most recent games.
16. K.J. Jackson - Arkansas
- Last week: 16
It has been a struggle for Jackson and the Razorbacks. This week, they stayed in the game with Tennessee, but Jackson was 15-of-27 for 155 yards and a touchdown with a lost fumble.
15. Marcel Reed - Texas A&M
- Last week: 13
After last year, hopes were high that Reed could lead the Aggies on a playoff run, but things have fallen apart. On Saturday, he completed less than half of his passes and threw two interceptions in an ugly loss.
14. Byrum Brown - Auburn
- Last week: 14
The Tigers, and Brown, were off this week. He'll get a massive test this week when they take on Georgia.
13. John Mateer - Oklahoma
- Last week: 15
The defense led the way for the Sooners, but Mateer avoided big mistakes, leading Oklahoma to a huge win over the No. 1 ranked Longhorns this week. It was a game to build from.
12. Jared Curtis - Vanderbilt
- Last week: 11
Curtis continues to show flashes of the talent he has. However, against Ole Miss, he looked like a freshman, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble.
11. Tennessee Quarterback
- Last week: 10
The Volunteers got a win this week behind George MacIntyre, who started this week. He had three turnovers, though, against an Arkansas team that hasn't been very good this year.
10. Aaron Philo - Florida
- Last week: 9
As teams focus to stopping Jadan Baugh, Philo hasn't been able to take advantage, and the Gators have lost two straight games. This week, he threw for 227 yards, but turned it over twice.
9. Sam Leavitt - LSU
- Last week: 8
Leavitt played well overall against Kentucky. However, he had two big turnovers, and came up just a bit short in what was a big win for the Wildcats.
8. Arch Manning - Texas
- Last week: 6
Manning had one of his worst games on Saturday. He threw two costly interceptions, and the Longhorns lost to Oklahoma, losing their No. 1 ranking.
7. LaNorris Sellers - South Carolina
- Last week: 12
Sellers was spectacular this week. In a blowout win over Florida, he threw for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns, and ran for another score.
6. Kenny Minchey - Kentucky
- Last week: 7
In Kentucky's biggest win so far this season, Minchey excelled late in the game, when everything was on the line. He didn't throw a TD pass, but he did run for one, and had the game-winning run in overtime.
5. Kamario Taylor - Mississippi State
- Last week: 5
Taylor and the Bulldogs were on a bye this week. They'll face off against LSU next weekend in a big matchup.
4. Keelon Russell - Alabama
- Last week: 1
Russell wasn't bad, but Georgia's defense held him in check all game long. He threw for a touchdown, and fumbled once against a very good defense.
3. Austin Simmons - Missouri
- Last week: 2
Missouri beat Texas A&M, but Simmons didn't have a big game by any means. He completed just 50% of his passes for 147 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
2. Gunner Stockton - Georgia
- Last week: 3
Stockton came out on top in a matchup against Keelon Russell. He was 18-for-22 for 249 yards and a touchdown, though he did also have an interception.
1. Trinidad Chambliss - Ole Miss
- Last week: 4
Chambliss totaled four touchdowns against Vanderbilt on Saturday. Once again, the top four names on this list all have a strong case for the top spot.
