The Tennessee Vols dominated on Saturday against the Alabama Crimson Tide, rolling (pun intended) to a 26-10 win inside the friendly and deafening confines of Neyland Stadium.

Naturally, there were plenty of standouts and heroes from the game. But on Monday, the SEC recognized two of them as players of the week at their respective positions: DL Ty Weathersby and K Cooper Ranvier.

Weathersby earned lineman of the week honors with a disruptive day off the edge. He finished with four tackles, two sacks, and 2.5 tackles for loss. Weathersby also picked up the fumble by Keelon Russell in the first quarter after Jeremiah Telander —who also had a terrific game with two sacks and a fourth down stop — sacked Russell, he and rumbled 20 yards for what appeared to be a touchdown. The play was called back because Weathersby’s knee was down, but it was still a fumble recovery that led to points.

And those points came courtesy of Ranvier, who was Tennessee’s entire scoring offense in the first half. He booted four field goals on the day and both extra points. He made all three attempts of 29, 33, and 41 yards in the first quarter and added a 34-yard field goal in the second quarter. Those 12 points off of field goals were enough to outscore Alabama’s entire team on the day.

A great game, and certainly two deserving award winners, although Telander, Dejuan Lane, and DeSean Bishop also deserve strong consideration at their respective positions as well.
