The BTP Degeneracy Dungeon, Week 4

It’s game day and the weather is perfect, so let’s talk some ball. The dungeon is always at work but it’s taken a little extra time to put a full week of picks together. Did we have NC State covering last week? We sure did! We gave everyone a concussion to forget about it.

Sadly there is no Obligatory Bet Against UNC Of The Week this week since that trainwreck is on a bye and presumably racking up parking tickets, but there’s always next time. Regardless of the day or time, UNC is run by an overpriced has-been who only took the job to get his kids and cronies some work, which is endlessly funny. Anyway!

Week 4

Clemson -2.5 vs. Cal: If Cal were more important generally in the college football universe, a lot of people would be wondering why Cal is this bad. The Bears got smoked by UCLA in their first game, only scored 21 points at Syracuse (seven thanks to a defensive score), and only managed 10 against an obviously dysfunctional Clemson team on Friday night. Last we checked, they do still have an NFL quarterback under center.

Wake vs. Louisville under 57.5: Louisville is due some course correction, and Wake Forest is on its usual steady trajectory. Not surprisingly, actually competent coaches have made Gio Lopez into a much more solid player. But neither of the quarterbacks in this game are good passers, and this one is going to bog down.

Texas A&M +8.5 vs. LSU: A lot of schools are feeling a lot of regret about spending like $4 million on a starting quarterback who can’t read a defense (ahem). Texas A&M and LSU both are among the top spenders in college football, and they are both trying to come back from early setbacks. A&M’s result last week, while hilarious, probably leaves it underrated here.

Iowa vs. Michigan over 37.5: We cannot ever resist these sicko O/U bets here in the dungeon—it is dungeon policy. The Big 10 can add 34 more teams, and it can even have Indiana win a national title, but it will always be putting in the yeoman’s work of total garbage football. Can you imagine the amount of stress that’s on your shoulders as a field goal kicker for these teams?

Oklahoma vs. UGA -13.5: Oklahoma is bad.

App State vs. NC State -13.5: All of the nonsense that happened in the last 15 minutes obscured the prior 45, which showed a team getting quite a bit better in real time. Then The Thing That Happened happened. Dave really doesn’t have to choose these perilous journeys all the time, but he gets us, and so he must. But after that week? It’s gonna be a rough one for App.
