Texas football is the top team in the nation so far this year. On Saturday, Texas will face Oklahoma in the 122nd meeting of the Red River Rivalry. Texas has won three of the last four games between the two, including two straight.
As the two teams prepare to face each other on the gridiron, Texas just got a win over their rival on the college football recruiting trail, according to Sam Spiegelman of On3.
Micah Rhodes, a four-star running back and the number 11 running back in the 2028 class, has committed to Texas. He was previously committed to Oklahoma. The running back announced his decision on his birthday and just days before the two rivals meet. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian visited Rhodes during their off week last week and has been pursuing the running back hard.

“Texas is a strong contender,” Rhodes has said. “My family and I like what Texas is doing as a whole and making sure I feel like a priority. They’ve shown me I am a priority in their recruiting class. The more I visit Texas, I see why athletes come to Austin. Great football, great people in building, and to the athletes who shared their experiences in recruiting as well — the experiences being on campus and playing for the Longhorns.”
Rhodes is the second player to join the class of 2028 for the Longhorns, joining four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence.
“I am feeling more comfortable with Texas and all the staff,” Rhodes continued. “Texas always made me feel like family and treated my family as their family as well. What excites me about possibly being a Longhorn is the grit that Texas played with and the confidence in each other as a whole. I like how Coach ran the ball to continue to control the game and ultimately win the game with the running backs in their comeback win.”
As the Longhorns get another win off the field, they will be looking for a win on Saturday as well. Texas and Oklahoma kick off at 3:30 pm ET on Saturday in Dallas.
