Texas football ignited fierce hot takes after taking the shocking 27-24 loss to Oklahoma Saturday. Now head coach Steve Sarkisian must face the sad music. Especially now that the next top 25 rankings will feature a new No. 1.
The top-ranked Longhorns falls from the unbeaten ranks now. And Sark didn’t mince words with reporters after the game of what it was: Mental mistakes, including turnovers.
“If you expose yourself to these errors, good teams in this conference will take advantage of it. And you’ll get beat,” Sarkisian said, adding there’s “anger and frustration” inside the Texas locker room.

So Texas walked in as a big favorite to beat its annual Red River rival. The oddsmakers placed the Longhorns as a 7.5-point favorite heading into the old Cotton Bowl, the annual place where both historic rivals meet. And Texas faced a slumping Sooners team that lost to unranked Michigan, plus took a massive beatdown to Georgia.
But Saturday’s stunner proves OU is alive and kicking in the college football world. OU turned to a relentless defensive display by head coach Brent Venables, including frustrating high-profile quarterback Arch Manning.
OU snatched the football twice in front of Manning for two interceptions. Manning managed to unleash one 41-yard bomb to start the scoring in the game, hitting Cam Coleman for a 41-yarder. But OU forced him into bad field habits from there. Manning settled for only 260 passing yards and took two sacks.
Oklahoma even erased a 17-7 halftime deficit, outscoring the ‘Horns 20-7 the rest of the way.
