On Saturday, Texas football was upset by Florida 27-24. The former No. 1 overall Longhorns are suddenly 4-2 after dropping back-to-back contests. Some fans have wondered if head coach Steve Sarkisian’s job may be in question. The Texas coach attempted to explain what went wrong in his opening statement while speaking to reporters after the game, via CJ Vogel of OnTexasFootball.
“Obviously extremely disappointed. We didn’t play very good football today,” Sarkisian said. “… They ended up controlling the ball in the second half. Our inability to be effective on first down and also our inability to convert in short-yard situations — third and short, fourth and short — really was a snapshot of it all. So, very disappointed.”
The Longhorns struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the contest. They managed to score 24 points overall, but one touchdown came via a kick return. Finding ways to win defined Texas’ first part of the season. They even defeated Ohio State early in the year.

Now, Texas has dropped back-to-back games to Oklahoma and Florida by exact scores of 27-24 in each contest.
“We will work and we will get back,” Sarkisian added. “We’ve got a better team than we are right now, and it’s my job to figure out to get us to play closer to, and then ultimately achieve our potential.”
Things will not get any easier against a talented Ole Miss team next week. Earning a win in that game will be of the utmost importance as Texas tries to remain in the College Football Playoff conversation.
