Texas defensive back Jelani McDonald received his first preseason recognition from the Jim Thorpe Award.
McDonald enters his senior season after starting all 13 games in 2025 and leading Texas with 80 tackles and three interceptions. The preseason All-SEC Third Team selection has appeared in 39 career games with 17 starts.
The Jim Thorpe Award recognizes the nation's top defensive back. Texas has produced three winners of the award, and McDonald will begin the 2026 season when the Longhorns host Texas State on September 5.
