The Tennessee Volunteers have been without quarterback Faizon Brandon, who is dealing with an injury. The freshman missed their 24-17 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks and has been listed as questionable for their upcoming clash against Alabama. But Pete Nakos of On3 has a promising update on the quarterback.

“Tennessee QB Faizon Brandon will be available tomorrow against Alabama, but the Vols are set to start QB George MacIntyre,” Nakos posted on X, formerly Twitter.

It had previously been reported that MacIntyre will continue as the team’s starting quarterback. MacIntyre lost out to Brandon for the starting job in preseason but took over after Brandon’s benching against Auburn. McIntyre went 18-of-29 for 247 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions in his start against Arkansas.

Brandon has thrown for 697 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception thus far in his freshman season. He has also rushed for 130 yards with three touchdowns. Brandon’s availability will give Vols coach Josh Heupel some added optionality against a tough Bama defense.

Amid the uncertainty at quarterback for Tennessee, the offensive burden has fallen to DeSean Bishop. The junior running back has been outstanding thus far, rushing for 678 yards with eight touchdowns. He is coming off back-to-back monster performances against Auburn and Arkansas, rushing for 458 yards and four touchdowns over the two games. However, it should be noted that he struggled against top-ranked Texas and was limited to a season-low 34 yards.

The Vols will also need Mike Matthews’ playmaking against Bama’s vaunted pass defense. The wideout is having a strong junior season with 396 yards on 22 catches and three touchdowns.
