It might not have been pretty at times, but the Tennessee Volunteers found a way to get the job done on Saturday, rallying from a second half deficit to beat the Auburn Tigers 24-14 in Knoxville.
It was a game where Tennessee struggled in the first half, with Faizon Brandon completing 3 of 8 attempts for no yards and a pick before getting benched for George MacIntyre. DeSean Bishop and the Tennessee ground attack rumbled for almost 250 yards to carry the Tennessee offense.
So now, at 4-1 and 1-1 in SEC play, where did that leave the Vols in the polls on Saturday? Up a bit, actually.
Tennessee checked in at No. 15 in the AP Poll and No. 14 in the Coaches Poll on Sunday afternoon. It was a bump up of two spots in the AP Poll and three in the Coaches Poll.
Iowa and Florida dropped below Tennessee after getting handled by Ohio State and Missouri, respectively on Saturday. The Buckeyes controlled the Hawkeyes 31-14 in Iowa City, and the Tigers bulldozed the Gators 45-17 in Columbia.
The top five in both polls remained unchanged. Alabama moved up to No. 6 in the AP Poll after destroying Mississippi State in Starkville 56-23. The Crimson Tide will have the eyes of the nation on them next week when they host No. 2 Georgia in a massive SEC showdown. Win that game, and the Tide vs. Vols could get even that more interesting the following weekend in Knoxville.
Of course, Tennessee has to take care of their own business next weekend in Fayetteville against the Arkansas Razorbacks as well.
