Tennessee football all-time results on August 31

Tennessee first fielded a football team in 1891. Throughout its history, the Vols have played on Aug. 31 seven times and have a 6-1 record.

Tennessee has played two neutral-site games and five contests at Neyland Stadium on Aug. 31.

The Vols defeated UNLV, 62-3, in 1996 at Neyland Stadium.

In 2002, Tennessee defeated Wyoming, 47-7, in Nashville, Tennessee. The Vols also won a neutral-site game, 35-21, against North Carolina State in Atlanta, Georgia to kick off its 2012 season.

In 2013, the Vols shut out Austin-Peay, 45-0, at Neyland Stadium, marking Butch Jones' debut as Tennessee's head coach.

Tennessee led, 42-0, at halftime.

Quarterback Justin Worley completed 11-of-13 passing attempts for 104 yards and three touchdowns for the Vols.

Rajion Neal led Tennessee with 141 rushing yards and one touchdown on 16 attempts. Marlin Lane scored two touchdowns for the Vols.

Devrin Young, Pig Howard and Brendan Downs scored one receiving touchdown each against the Governors. Michael Palardy also converted a 37-yard field goal in the shutout win.

Tennessee's only loss on Aug. 31 was against Georgia State. The Vols lost, 38-30, at Neyland Stadium.
