St. John's Basketball Schedules Visit With Class of 2027 5-Star

Since Rick Pitino took over as head coach of the St. John's Red Storm, he has done a great job of stockpiling talent year in and year out.

However, most of that talent has come via the transfer portal. Season after season, there is massive turnover in the team's roster. Pitino has spoken at length about how hard it is to win with freshmen, so he has focused a lot of resources on bringing in players with some collegiate experience.

For the second year in a row, the Red Storm have the No. 1-ranked class of transfer players in the country, headlined by Tounde Yessoufou, Keyshawn Hall and Donnie Freeman. However, when it comes to high school recruiting, St. John's is lagging behind.

Alas, that is something Pitino is looking to change with the Class of 2027. The Red Storm are right in the mix for five-star recruit Malachi Jordan, who has revealed to Sam Kayser of League Ready that he has locked in a visit to St. John's.

The No. 16-ranked player in the SportsCenter Next 100 will be in Queens this weekend for a visit. He is a five-star player according to 247Sports Composite with a 0.9928 rating. Ranked No. 19 nationally, he is the No. 6 small forward and No. 9-ranked player in the state of Florida.

A product of Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he is listed at 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds. He has already generated a ton of interest, receiving 21 scholarship offers and counting. According to 247Sports, the Red Storm have not made him an offer yet, but that could certainly change upon his visit.

St. John's will be the sixth official visit that Jordan takes, per 247Sports. His most recent was to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Oct. 9. Before that, he made official visits to the Tennessee Volunteers on Sept. 25, Vanderbilt Commodores on Sept. 19, Kansas Jayhawks on Sept. 11 and USC Trojans on Sept. 4.

Possessing all of the physical tools to become a two-way, multi-positional force, Jordan has an incredibly high ceiling. But, it will take some buying in on his part to coaching to develop and reach that ceiling.

Pitino certainly has the track record of molding high-upside prospects into excellent basketball players. Securing a commitment from someone as talented as Jordan would be a huge win for the future of the program as a building block on the wing.
