Michigan eyeing Traverse City standout for 2028 QB
The Michigan Wolverines have their quarterback commit in the 2027 class locked in with four-star Kamden Lopati, and now the staff is looking to find its 2028 signal caller. Three-star Brayden Tillman out of Traverse City West High School could be the guy.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder is rising up the rankings this fall and now has scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Florida State, Wisconsin, Purdue and others. He spoke about earning his offer from the Wolverines last week.
“Coach (Koy) Detmer came to my school this morning and I got to spend a little time with him,” Tillman told The Michigan Insider ($). “That’s where he offered me. Told me how much him and the coaching staff loves my game, and how he saw me fit.”
Michigan is back in action on Saturday against Penn State at The Big House, and Tillman is already set to take a trip to Ann Arbor for the game.
“I plan to be there on the 17th for the game,” he said.
Tillman is the No. 388 player in the 2028 class, per Rivals’ Industry Rankings. He has thrown for 1,543 yards, 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions through seven games this season. He has also rushed for 336 yards and three additional touchdowns.
Michigan hosting another QB target for Penn State game
Tillman isn’t the only quarterback that Michigan is targeting in the 2028 class. Four-star Levi Kerr out of Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina will also be on campus this weekend for Michigan’s showdown with Penn State.
Kerr is the No. 335 player in the 2028 class, and if Michigan extends an offer, the program will be high on his list.
“I’m hoping they do,” Kerr told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “They’ve always been a school that I’ve been interested in.”
So far in his high school season, Kerr has thrown for more than 1,2oo yards and 17 touchdowns.
Michigan a top option for priority safety
2028 three-star safety Mekhi McNair was in Ann Arbor for the Oklahoma game on Sept. 12, and Michigan’s defense put on a show. The environment in the stadium and the way the Wolverines shut down Oklahoma’s offense really stood out to McNair.
“That was a great game, a real defensive game,” McNair told On3’s McDowell ($). “That’s what I like, physicality from the safeties, just the energy, the environment. The stadium was crazy, and sitting down to talk with the coaches, the head coach, I really felt like that was a special moment.”
Michigan safeties coach Tyler Stockton has been recruiting McNair hard, and he is making a strong impression so far.
“He’s been around ball for so long,” McNair said. “Just the coaching style too, the way he develops safeties, and I’ve definitely seen that after the way Michigan’s safeties played…That’s a room I would want to be in. … The physicality, the hustle, I just see myself on the field when I was watching them.”
As of now, McNair admitted that Michigan is “definitely” in his Top 4 list.
