It wasn’t a good Saturday afternoon for Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer and the rest of the program.

Oklahoma came into Saturday’s game against Michigan as a slight favorite and ranked No. 11 in the AP poll, but it didn’t matter. Michigan took a 10-0 lead into halftime before winning 17-10.

Mateer didn’t have a good game for the Sooners, finishing with only 189 yards through the air, one touchdown, and one interception. He was missing throws constantly and never looked comfortable against Michigan’s defense.

After the game, Mateer was asked about his performance and, as expected, he wasn’t happy.

“I missed a lot of throws I normally don’t miss,” Mateer told reporters.

He also told reporters that he’ll “make it happen” going forward.

The Sooners need Mateer to figure it out quickly because their schedule won’t get easier. After a matchup against the New Mexico Lobos next Saturday, they’ll play the second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Sept. 26 and the fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns on Oct. 10.

The Sooners will also play the Texas A&M Aggies, Ole Miss Rebels, and Missouri Tigers later in the season. It’s a nasty schedule, but that’s life in the SEC.

Mateer and Co. will try to shake this loss off before playing at home next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
