Coach Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Longhorns outlasted Ole Miss for a 34-27 upset victory in Week 8 college football action, outpacing Trinidad Chambliss’ team on a night when Arch Manning looked like his old self again. Texas got a Cam Coleman injury scare that gave way to better moments as Sarkisian’s team pulled off a huge win behind a huge day on the ground from running back Raleek Brown, and a late defensive stand after Ole Miss recovered an onside kick.
The onside kick happened with a little over a minute left and gave the Rebels new life that was eventually stamped out by the Texas defense.

“That game was crazy man,” Hayes Fawcett of On3 remarked as fans attempted to digest what they witnessed at Darrell K Royal Texas-Memorial Stadium in Austin.
The Longhorns led 24-3 at halftime before Chambliss’ crew came roaring back to score 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. Chambliss and the Rebels tied the game at 24 apiece on a 27-yard touchdown pass to Horatio Fields that gave Manning and his teammates a chance to come through in the clutch.
Manning scored on a one-yard touchdown run to make it 31-24, and a Gianni Spetic field goal gave the Longhorns enough breathing room to outlast coach Pete Golding’s squad.
The Longhorns are now 5-2 on the season, 2-2 in SEC play, as they await word on injuries and other key points of interest following their big win. The win capped off words of support from Texas AD Chris del Conte, who urged patience in the face of challenge in Austin.
Halloween (October 31) brings a home game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs that will give Manning and his teammates a chance to continue their growth process under Sarkisian and his coaching staff. The SEC is a tough conference, but it suddenly appears more wide open than most expected after a huge victory from Manning and his team.
