Coach Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers welcomed a tough opponent, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana and had a hard time cashing in their opportunities on offense as QB Josh Hoover didn’t quite live up to his coach’s expectations. Hoover was pulled amid an uneven game, reminding Cignetti of his previous comments after the Michigan game and leading to Grant Wilson’s insertion into the starting lineup.

Wilson entered the game and became a caretaker of Cignetti and offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan’s offense as he attempted to lead the Hoosiers down the field in a 10-7 game in favor of the Gophers.

Wilson did not throw a pass as of the 6:40 minute mark of the third quarter with the Hoosiers searching for a comeback against coach PJ Fleck’s team.

The Hoosiers relied on the two-headed rushing attack of injury overcomer Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe Jr. as the two running backs combined for nearly 70 yards as of the third quarter. Hoover completed just 8-of-19 passes for 119 yards along with a touchdown and an interception as his efficiency waned in Shanahan’s offense.

Wilson transferred to Indiana from the Old Dominion Monarchs in 2025 after throwing for nearly 2,200 yards along with 17 touchdowns during his freshman season in 2023. The former Sun Belt Conference player looked to show coach Cignetti what he could do on an exciting afternoon in the Hoosier State, with Indiana’s 7-1 record on the line.

The Hoosiers added a game-tying field goal as Wilson completed 2-of-4 passes for 13 yards.
