Back by popular demand, this is your more comprehensive look at the upcoming college football schedule. Week 2 has three games that I’d consider major, several “maybe” games, and a lot of “yep, it’s football” games. Here’s a curation of what I think is worth watching this weekend.

Thursday

If you want to watch college football on TV, I have bad news. There is only one game.

7:00 p.m. on ACCN: Miami (FL) vs Florida A&M

As if this game wasn’t going to be bad enough, FAMU played on Sunday instead of the typical Saturday. I won’t be watching because I’ll be in Perkinston, Mississippi, watching Mississippi Gulf Coast CC host Itawamba CC. If you’re curious to watch that, you can fund the stream here.

Friday

There are four games to watch tonight, but only two are between FBS teams. Here are your choices.

6:30 p.m. on ESPN2: Boston College vs Rutgers

Whoever loses this game should be given the option to sim to the end of their season. Either Rutgers drops to 0-2 after losing to UMass or BC drops to 0-2 after losing to the team who lost to UMass. This is a sickos game of the decade with that factored in. Bring your hazmat suit and goggles if you plan to consume this game.

7:00 p.m. on FOX: Border War (Kansas vs Mizzou)

This game might be decent…or Mizzou might kick Kansas in the face. It’s great that this rivalry is still here, though, and it’ll be a decent watch. Kansas finally did something I’ve wanted to see them do for years, by the way: embrace John Brown. Give the student section foam broadswords and make this a thing, Kansas.

Saturday morning

Big day for a bunch of games starting with these at 11 a.m..

ABC: Texas A&M vs Arizona State

Is Arizona State good? I guess we’ll find out here. This is definitely one to keep your eye on, but not the big one.

Big 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox: Michigan vs Oklahoma

There are already doubts on if Bryce “$13 million NIL deal” Underwood is good enough to play after he struggled with Western Michigan. Oklahoma is going to put him in The Device and see if he can wiggle out of it. Oklahoma will play some of the most pungent offense if last season is any indication, but it will work well enough to win in most cases. If Michigan can’t do anything, this could cause a firestorm in Ann Arbor.

ESPN: Oklahoma State vs Oregon

Oh no, disaster. Oklahoma State is already in trouble after losing to Tulsa by 14, twice the margin by which they lost last year, and now they welcome Dan Lanning. Rubberneck this game at your own risk.

Saturday afternoon

My reaction to these games is “sure.” All games are at 2:30 p.m.

ABC: Kentucky vs Alabama

Oh no, Kentucky. Of all the ways to start the SEC season, Kentucky had to draw Alabama. At least it’s at home?

CBS: Minnesota vs Mississippi State

Sure. These two teams have never met before, so that’s one interesting thing in this game’s favor. The main thing that interests me is that this is the first chance MSU gets to show if they’re worth anything this year or not. Last year’s game against Arizona State ended up being a misleading point of data, so perhaps this will be more accurate.

ESPN+: Akron vs Robert Morris

Normally, I wouldn’t put an FBS vs FCS game here. This isn’t a normal cross-divional game, though. This is the game where Akron is letting a fan be offensive coordinator for the first drive. It’s a long-time Akron season ticket holder, and I am so interested in seeing how that goes. Reminder, if you have YouTube TV, the normal or the sports plan, you can watch this game within the YTTV app.

Saturday evening

This is when LSU plays, but that game should be a stinker early if the Clemson game was anything to go off. If that happens early, here are the best options from the 6:30 p.m. slate.

NBC: El Assico (Iowa vs Iowa State)

The best worst rivalry game in college football is back. In Week 1, Iowa scored 40 points against an FBS team and Iowa State scored 38 against an FCS team. Iowa might have an offense, and Iowa State might be in a weird first season under a new head coach. Either way, HIT ME WITH THE BEEPS.

ABC: Texas vs Ohio State

Arch Manning got thrown to the wolves in this game last year. This year, he at least got a game in and he gets to be at home. That won’t change the Buckeyes being as ferocious as usual, though.

Pac-12 After Dark

Oh yeah, we get some late-night weirdness.

9:00 p.m. on ESPN: Utah vs Arkansas

Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield mentioned that he isn’t worried about the altitude affecting his team in this game. It sure would be bad if that came back to bite him after squeaking past North Alabama in Week 1.

Are you a bad enough dude to pass the Hawaii test?

11:00 p.m. on MW+: Hawaii vs New Mexico State

Mahalo America! This is the first Hawaii game not being broadcast on TV on the mainland this season, and it’s the first one in many years that mainlanders will have to pay to watch. The only good news I can say is that there’s an MW+ app for smart TVs.
