Former Longhorns to watch in Week 0: Wisner, Cruz, Tapp, Washington

Arch Manning and Texas don’t take the field for another week, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing for Longhorn fans to watch in Week 0. Four former Longhorns are set to make debuts with their new teams on Saturday.

The Longhorns underwent a hefty “makeover” this offseason and three of the departures will appear tomorrow. On top of that, a blast from the past is looking to continue his meteoric rise.

Here’s where you’ll see former Longhorns this week:

TE Jordan Washington - North Carolina

Game: vs. TCU, 11 a.m. CT(Ireland)

The sole departure from the TE room this offseason was sophomore Jordan Washington. He’s found a new home with Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels, joining a transfer-filled TE room. Colorado State transfer Jaxxon Warren, Ohio State transfer Jelani Thurman and Washington are all battling for playing time. It seems Washington is running as the TE3 currently, but he could find the field against TCU in Ireland tomorrow.

OL Daniel Cruz - North Carolina State

Game: at Virginia, 2:30 p.m. CT

One of the many losses on the offensive line was Daniel Cruz, who joined Washington’s rival, the NC State Wolfpack. He’s currently slated as a second-team player, but could find the field against Virginia if needed. The third-year OL could play both center and either guard position, giving him a chance to be the Wolfpacks utility OL this season.

RB Tre Wisner - Florida State

Game: vs. New Mexico State, 6 p.m. CT

A Longhorn favorite is the final 2025 departure playing this week. Wisner will make his debut for Florida State against New Mexico State tomorrow. He’ll be working in tandem with Ousamane Kromah in the Seminoles backfield. Among the quartet, there’s no doubt Wisner will be getting the most support from Longhorn Nation. Wisner was a beloved Longhorn during his time in Austin and I imagine that’s unchanged this weekend.

DL Ja’Mond Tapp - Memphis

Game: at UNLV, 9 p.m. CT

This is a name many Longhorn fans might’ve forgotten. Tapp joined the Longhorns in Sarkisian’s second season, but appeared in just six games in two seasons and transferred to Arizona State. After a tumultuous year there, he joined Charles Huff at Southern Miss. He notched 7.5 sacks last season and followed Huff to Memphis in the offseason. He’ll make his debut as a Tiger tomorrow against UNLV, with a chance to be a top DL in the Group of 6 conferences.
