Florida football bounced back strong on Saturday, grinding out a huge 27-24 win over Texas in Austin to snap a two-game skid. It was the Gators' first road victory over a top-10 team since 2012 and one that put them in position for a second-half surge this fall.
"Proud of our guys. You know, we've had some setbacks as of late," head coach Jon Sumrall said after the game. "But the most important thing that happened today is we fought, and winning the game matters. I want us to always win — but how you play the game matters as much to me."
Following the Week 7 win, Florida rose from the unranked masses back into the top 25 of the latest US LBM Coaches Poll to No. 24 with 250 points. That now puts the Gators between No. 23 Northwestern (256) and No. 25 Oregon (189).
In this week's rankings, the SEC's tally fell by one to eight schools among the top 25, headlined by fourth-ranked Georgia, followed by Ole Miss (No. 7), Tennessee (No. 11), Kentucky (No. 12), Alabama (No. 13), LSU (No. ), Missouri (No. ) and Florida (No. 24). Mississippi State dropped out with 32 points and joins Auburn (55) as the other two league teams that also appeared on the ballot.
Next up, Florida has a bye week before facing Georgia in the annual rivalry game on Saturday, Oct. 31, which will be played in Atlanta and broadcast on ABC starting at 3:30 p.m. ET.
