The losses keep piling up for the Florida Gators, who dropped their fourth game in their last five tries in Week 10 — this time, a 23-7 defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners. Now 5-4 on the season, Jon Sumrall and Co. have tumbled out of ESPN's Football Power Index top 25 but still remain among the top 30 despite their latest futility.
The FPI measures team strength and is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance for the rest of the season; it shows how many points above or below average a team is. Each team is assigned a rating that measures its true strength on a net-points scale, as well as its expected point margin against an average opponent on a neutral field.
Projected results are based on 20,000 season simulations using FPI and the schedule. Take a look at how Florida's numbers shake out after Week 10's gridiron action.
Where Florida football ranks in ESPN's FPI after Week 10
Florida fell six spots to No. 28 in ESPN's FPI rankings after the Week 10 loss, and its rating dropped by 1.4 points to 12.5. Sumrall and Co. now sit between No. 27 UCLA (12.6) and No. 29 Duke (12.5) in the standings.
The FPI now projects the Gators to finish this fall's regular-season schedule with a 6.9-5.1 record — a 0.7-win reduction — but an improved 23.2% chance of winning out. Florida's chances of finishing with six wins remain at a near-certain 96.2%, while the odds of winning the conference are now at nil.
The Gators' chance of making the College Football Playoff declined from 11.0% to 0.3%, along with no chance of reaching the national championship game, much less winning a national title.
