ESPN’s College Gameday will set up in Salt Lake City on Oct. 24 for No. 14 Houston at No. 10 Utah, immediately after leaving Provo, Utah, where it covered BYU’s win over Notre Dame.
Utah is 6-0 after edging Colorado 27-24, which gave it the country’s longest active winning streak at 12 games, per Yahoo. Houston is 6-1 after beating Oklahoma State 35-32 in a shootout. The game is set for an 8:15 p.m. kickoff at Rice-Eccles Stadium, according to KSL.
Houston has the more urgent need. The Cougars already have a Big 12 loss, so another one would likely end their conference title hopes, SI noted. Their remaining schedule after Utah is Cincinnati, Colorado, West Virginia and Baylor, which means a win in Salt Lake could make them the favorite to win out.
The history favors the visitors, and the attention is new for Houston
Houston leads the all-time series 5-0, including a win in 2024. The trip will be the program’s first GameDay appearance since 2011 and its first ever as a visiting team, according to Underdog Dynasty.
For Utah, it’s the seventh time GameDay has visited campus and the second year in a row.
That kind of exposure can cut both ways. A national stage helps recruiting and visibility, but it also puts every mistake on a larger screen.
Utah’s Morgan Scalley praised Colorado’s effort after Saturday, saying the Buffaloes “competed and fought”, and he’ll want his team sharper against Houston.

The Big 12 is getting the attention it wanted
Four Big 12 teams are in the top 15 of the AP poll, and five conference teams are ranked overall. BYU, Texas Tech and Utah are all unbeaten, Heartland College Sports pointed out, which makes this one of the more balanced races in the country.
GameDay’s choices don’t always match the best game on the schedule, but this one is easy to defend. The conference has a logjam at the top and few clear favorites.
Houston coach Willie Fritz is 20-12 since 2024, and the program finished 10-3 last year, so the Cougars aren’t a surprise visitor. They’re just a team that now has to prove it can win a game like this away from home.
If Utah wins, it strengthens its case as a playoff contender and keeps its streak alive. If Houston wins, the Big 12 race gets even more crowded.
Either way, the broadcast is likely to spend plenty of time on a conference that, for the first time in a while, looks like it has real depth.
