Earlier this month there was a strange incident involving one of the playbooks belonging to Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes. It was apparently found by a fan at a hotel bar in Boulder, Colorado the night before his team played against Texas Tech.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday this week, Sanders finally addressed the issue. He was quick to dismiss it, pointing out that they don’t have a “whole playbook” so at most whoever got their hands on it got some scripted plays for the opening drive. Coach Prime insisted that it was a non-issue because the Buffaloes wound up scoring against Texas Tech on the opening drive anyway.
“A whole playbook. So somebody left a whole playbook, or a script of several plays,” Sanders said, via DNVR Buffs. “That happens sometimes… I don’t think we have a whole playbook, I think they get a script. I thought we scored on the first drive … So, what’s the purpose of the question.”

Sanders said that he had no intentions of investigating the incident since the game is already over.
“Why would we? It’s over. Game’s over,” Sanders said later. “Why would we do that? We probably know a lot more than you think we do. But a whole playbook? Come on, man.”
Fans are pretty suspicious over this.
That explanation (or excuse depending on your perspective) hasn’t gone over well with fans, who didn’t accept the idea that this is some normal thing that “happens sometimes.”
“That doesnt just happen sometimes,” one user on X remarked.
“It’s best to just say, ‘That’s unacceptable and I will do everything in my power to make sure we are more organized, so something as silly as this never happens again.’ I wish he would’ve said something along those lines,” wrote another.
“So, three kids are kicked off the team for laughing at the end of a game but someone leaves their plays in the hotel room and he’s not even going to look into it? Was he the one who accidentally left the plays there?” another wondered.

Colorado is 2-3 right now with a tough game against No. 11 Utah coming up this weekend. The following week they’ll be on the road for a game against No. 18 Oklahoma State. It’s hardly beyond the realm of possibility that the team loses both games and drops to 2-5.
At that point, anything is on the table as far as Sanders’ future with the team goes.
