On August 20, Weigman and 29 other quarterbacks were named to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list, an award that honors the nation's best quarterback. Weigman is now in the conversation with some of the best quarterbacks across the nation, so here is the case for the Cougars' quarterback. He also had 3,405 offensive yards, the 12th most by a Cougar quarterback since 1996 and his 700 rushing yards were the second most by a Houston quarterback since 1996, per Houston Athletics. He is one of four FBS quarterbacks to have both 25 or more passing touchdowns and 10 or more rushing touchdowns in 2025. He was also a three-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week last season and was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and Maxwell Award watch lists. Supporting CastWide receiver Amare Thomas is an elite No. 1 option for the quarterback and is considered one of the best wide receivers in the conference. Additionally, Oregon State transfer receiver Trent Walker is Weigman's best option to move the chains and get closer to the end zone on third down.
