The college football season entered October, and the games are starting to get bigger as the race to the College Football Playoff takes shape.

There were three ranked matchups on the day, all involving top 10 teams on the road, highlighted by undefeated No. 14 Iowa welcoming No. 6 Ohio State to Kinnick Stadium. No. 7 Alabama also had to handle Kamario Taylor and the cowbells with a visit to No. 16 Mississippi State, and No. 8 Florida coming off a major win by going to No. 25 Missouri.

In other action, some ranked teams did fall, and others squeaked by to keep their hopes alive.

A slew of ranked teams had the week off, with No. 1 Texas, No. 12 Mississippi, No. 13 Utah and No. 15 Oregon, No. 21 Duke and No. 23 UCLA on a bye.
