Oct. 24—***
College football fans shouldn't count on a repeat of last weekend's upset special. Five of the top seven teams got beat in a wipeout that won't likely happen again this season. If ever.
Don't know why I root for the underdogs, but I always have. Unless, of course, my team of choice is favored. It's just fun to know that not everything is always going to play out the way the experts think.
It looks like the favorites will rule college football on Saturday. There are only two games pairing ranked teams: No. 7 Mississippi at No. 19 Texas and No. 10 Utah at No. 14 Houston.
I'm putting a few teams on upset watch, though No. 1 Miami is not one of them. The Hurricanes are 20 1/2-point favorites at home against Pitt.
Indiana is a touchdown favorite at Michigan. Maybe a new starting quarterback will give the Wolverines a lift, but I like Curt Cignetti coming off a loss.
Texas Tech could run into trouble at Cincinnati, but the Red Raiders have been steady all season and will survive.
No. 18 LSU would be in danger at Auburn if the Tigers hadn't just knocked off Georgia. Two upsets in a row is too much to ask from first-year coach Alex Golesh.
I wonder a little about BYU's ability to stay focused a week after a giant win against Notre Dame. Playing at home, I like UCF's chances of staying close until late.
Last but not least, Minnesota would love nothing better than to hand Iowa its second loss. The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 15 seem headed to the CFP.
