The Ohio State Buckeyes have a massive game against the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday. It’s a chance for redemption for the Buckeyes, and especially for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, after some questionable coaching decisions ended up costing his team the Big Ten championship last season to this same Indiana squad.

Remarkably, A loss on Saturday could lead to Day’s seat getting warmer in Columbus, Ohio, despite him winning the national championship just two seasons ago, a unique situation that Bomani Jones and RJ Young discussed on a recent episode of The Right Time with Bomani Jones.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a man adapt to what the expectation is from his base better than Ryan Day. I think he’s a good football coach. I do. I also think that he knows every year is a year he can get fired for losing the wrong game,” Young told Jones, referencing Ohio State’s annual clash with the Michigan Wolverines.

“And he’s lost that wrong game a little more often than he should. In 2024, yeah, they won the national championship, but they had to. And I don’t think that’s true anywhere else in the country. We’re not going to say, ‘because you lost to Michigan, you got to get fired,’ especially after the rest of it. Or Kyle McCord, who got the hell up out of there as a quarterback because he lost that game and nobody wanted to see him anymore.”

Jones, however, was a little more critical of Day, noting that it’s shocking Ohio State isn’t more dominant given the NFL talent the program churns out.

“I don’t know what Ohio State would have to do for Ryan Day to get any credit for it. But I’ll tell you this, I was watching some of one of those games on Sunday with the Commanders of Washington against the Giants of New York,” Joens said, “and you see Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles playing like beasts. And it makes you come back to fucking Ryan Day and be like, guys lost two games last year, huh? How? You lost to Indiana? You had those guys on your team?”

Day already has a tally in the loss column this season due to a disastrous fourth-quarter collapse against the Texas Longhorns. The Ohio State fanbase was calling for Day’s job again after that loss, and the noise will only increase if he can’t avenge last season’s conference title loss on Saturday.
