The Auburn Tigers couldn't complete the upset for the second straight week in a row, as they were embarrassed at home at Jordan-Hare Stadium, falling to the LSU Tigers, 38-17, on Saturday.

The team could not find any rhythm offensively and struggled in a big way on the defensive side of the football, allowing LSU to coast to their sixth win of the season.

Here's what you need to know from the contest.

Auburn's defense was atrocious.

The Auburn Tigers couldn't stop Sam Leavitt and the LSU passing game on Saturday, as Lane Kiffin had his quarterback throw for 387 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson Harris had a big day for the LSU wide receiver core as he picked up 9 receptions for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Tigers' secondary struggled in a big way. The team allowed too much separation and big plays.

The turning point seemed to be an apparent interception by Auburn safety Eric Winters that was eventually overturned into an incomplete pass. Once that play occurred, LSU went down and picked up a touchdown on the drive, and Winters was injured on the scoring play. The next offensive drive for LSU ended with a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Harris on an assignment that would have been Winters, but instead inexperienced AnQuon Fegans blew the coverage.

The team allowed 552 total yards in the contest.

Offense couldn't find a rhythm.

After showing off a new style of play calling last week in the upset over No. 1 Georgia, Alex Golesh and offensive coordinator Joel Gordon seemed to regress back to what the offense looked like before the bye week.

The team struggled to extend drives and was forced to punt on seven different occasions on Saturday. The team was only 5-for-16 on third down. Byrum Brown only threw for 160 yards and rushed for 21, leading the team in both categories.

Despite the rushes from Byrum Brown, Auburn only utilized their running backs on 11 rushing carries.

What's next?

The team will finally end their gauntlet October schedule with a game on the road in Oxford against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Ole Miss is a potent offense and defeated LSU earlier this season. The Rebels are in action tonight on the road against the Texas Longhorns.

Auburn now moves to 4-3 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. Kickoff for next Saturday in Oxford is scheduled for 11:45 am Central Time.
