The No. 13 Alabama Crimson Tide is set to take on the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday with the goal of snapping a two-game losing streak. Going into the contest, however, defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was officially given a one-game suspension.
Reports indicate that the junior is being suspended for violating team rules, according to Charlie Potter of BamaOnLine, an affiliate of On3 Sports. Exactly what those team rules are is currently unknown, but he will not be playing in Week 8 against Texas A&M.
This will be Kirkpatrick’s first missed game of the 2026-27 campaign. Additionally, this is the second time in his collegiate career he has been suspended, as he was limited to eight games last season after being suspended for an on-campus arrest in November 2025.

In the first seven games of this season, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has accumulated five combined tackles (four solo), one pass deflection, and one forced fumble. He serves as a rotational option in the Husky position in Alabama’s defense, which is a hybrid position that works as a safety and off-ball linebacker.
This is Kirkpatrick’s third year playing for the Crimson Tide. He’s played as a rotational option every year since being a true freshman in 2024. But he has yet to play a full season since that year. We’ll see if he returns to action or not after missing out on the Texas A&M matchup.
He is also the son of 10-year former NFL defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick, who also attended Alabama when he was in college from 2009 through the 2011-12 campaign. Kirkpatrick Sr. helped the Crimson Tide win two national championships under head coach Nick Saban.
